Meet Dutch the Opossum
Dutch is a Virginia Opossum (Didelphis virginiana) and the only marsupial found in North America north of the Rio Grande River. Dutch was born in April of 2008 and weighs about 10 pounds. Unfortunately, his mother died when he was just a couple months old, and he was left an orphan. He was hand-raised by nursery staff at the zoo until he was old enough to eat on his own. He then moved to the Dome where he spends a lot of his time with zoo keepers visiting classes and the media.
